You can’t talk about pinball in the 21st century without bringing up Stern, the company may have single-handedly saved pinball from the brink of extinction. Stern kept the industry alive by designing machines based on licensed themes such as Monopoly, The Simpsons, Indiana Jones, and Metallica, and became the only major pinball manufacturer in the world for over a decade, consistently releasing several titles per year.

As of late 2019, Steve Ritchie, Brian Eddy, Keith Elwin, and George Gomez are designing pinball games at Stern Pinball, alongside longtime Data East/Sega Pinball designer John Borg.
